China to Southeast Asia

The container shipping rates for the China to Southeast Asia route (China to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and other SEA countries) are expected to continue decreasing in January. This is due to an oversupply of space by carriers compared to market demand. Unlike last year, this year’s Spring Festival is approaching, yet shipping demand seems not very high.

As Japan's peak season approaches, many Chinese factories are rushing to ship goods to Japan ahead of the Spring Festival holidays. Limited shipping space from carriers has led to a noticeable increase in spot rates, which are expected to remain elevated throughout January.

According to experts in YQN, Northern ports, such as Tianjin and Dalian, will face significant rate hikes. On January 3, the freight index for China-to-Japan routes reached 964.60 points.
