A New China-Thailand Shipping Service Will Launch in Jan 2025
Starting January 10, 2025, OOCL and Yang Ming will jointly introduce a new China-Laem Chabang Service, further enhancing trade connectivity between East China, South China, and Thailand. This new route is designed to support the growing demand for efficient and reliable shipping services between these key markets.
The service will operate on a comprehensive route, departing from Shanghai and making strategic stops at:
- Ningbo (Zhejiang Province, China)
- Xiamen (Fujian Province, China)
- Nansha (Guangdong Province, China)
- Laem Chabang (Chonburi Province, Thailand)
- Shekou (Guangdong Province, China)
This addition underscores the importance of the China-Thailand trade corridor and aims to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce transit times, and support businesses involved in cross-border trade.
Strengthening China-Thailand Trade Relations
China and Thailand share a dynamic trading relationship, with China being Thailand’s largest trading partner among ASEAN countries. As of October 2024, Thailand’s exports to China reached an impressive $28.10 billion USD, reflecting strong economic ties between the two nations.
Thailand’s top exports to China include:
- Agricultural products such as tropical fruits, seafood, and rice
- Natural rubber
- Wood and paper products
- Electronics and electrical goods
- Precious metals and jewelry
The new China-Laem Chabang Service will further promote trade efficiency and strengthen this relationship, offering businesses a faster and more reliable logistics network to support their growth.
The Strategic Importance of Laem Chabang Port
Located on Thailand’s eastern seaboard, Laem Chabang Port began operations since 1991. It is one of the most significant ports in Southeast Asia and a critical hub for international trade. According to World Shipping Council, Laem Chabang Port is ranked as the 20th world’s busiest port, with 8.87 million TEU in 2023.
Laem Chabang Port is a cornerstone of Thailand's shipping and logistics infrastructure.
Key Features:
- Strategic Location: Positioned near Bangkok and key industrial zones, the port offers excellent accessibility for exporters and importers.
- World-Class Infrastructure: Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, Laem Chabang ensures efficient handling of large volumes of cargo, reducing delays and improving operational efficiency.
- Connectivity: The port is well-connected to global shipping routes and serves as a gateway for trade between ASEAN countries and major economies like China, Japan, and the United States.
The inclusion of Laem Chabang in the new China-Laem Chabang Service reinforces its role as a vital link in facilitating trade between China and Thailand, further boosting its regional and global significance.
Businesses leveraging this port as part of their supply chain benefit from faster transit times, reduced costs, and improved access to Thailand’s thriving markets.
