Maersk, CMA Impose Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from Asia to Multiple Countries

Maersk and CMA CGM recently implemented peak season surcharges (PSS) from Asia to South America, India, Pakistan, and Africa, up to 2,000 USD.

1. PSS for Asia to East Coast South America


On April 25, Maersk issued a notice to revise the peak season surcharge (PSS) for all dry containers from Far East Asia (excluding Taiwan, China) to the east coast of South America effective from 1st May 2024 to 31st May, Vietnam to East Coast South America effective from 8th May 2024 to 31st May, Taiwan China to East Coast South America effective 23rd May 2024 to 31st May.


USD 1000 per 20-foot dry container, and USD 2000 per 40-foot and 45-foot dry container.

2. PSS for Asia to Saudi Arabia


On April 26, Maersk issued a notice to increase the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Brunei, China, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Korea South, Myanmar (Burma), Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste to Saudi Arabia effective from 1st May 2024 for 20/40 for both Dry & Reefer.

Vietnam to Saudi Arabia effective from 10th May 2024 for 20/40 for both Dry & Reefer.

Taiwan, China to Saudi Arabia effective from 25th May 2024 for 20/40 for both Dry & Reefer.


USD 650 per 20-foot dry and reefer container, and USD 900 per 40-foot dry and reefer container. Details are as follows:

3. PSS for North China, Korea South to India and Pakistan


On April 25, Maersk issued a notice to introduce the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for all containers from North China and Korea South to Jawaharlal Nehru, IN / Mundra, IN / Pipavav, Pakistan effective from 1st May 2024.

4. PSS for China and Hong Kong China to Africa


On April 24, Maersk issued a notice to implement the Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) for all 20, 40 and 45 dry containers from China and Hong Kong to Angola, Cameroon, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Namibia, Central African Republic, and Chad effective from 29th Apr 2024.


USD 700 per 20-foot dry container, and USD 1000 per 40-foot and 45-foot dry container. Details are as follows:

On April 22, Maersk issued a notice that starting from April 29, 2024, the peak season surcharge (PSS) from China to Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde Island, and Mali will be implemented.


USD 700 per 20-foot dry container, and USD 1400 per 40-foot and 45-foot dry container. Details are as follows:

CMA CGM


On April 24, CMA CGM issued a notice that starting from April 29, 2024, the peak season surcharge (PSS) from China to West Africa will be implemented.


The PSS from China to Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin, Ghana, Togo, and Equatorial Guinea is USD 900/TEU.


The PSS from North and Central China to Angola, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Namibia, Gabon and Cameroon is USD 500/TEU. Details are as follows:
