How to Ship Heavy & Large Machinery with YQN?

Apr 26, 2024

Industrial manufacturing is a crucial industry for China's overseas ventures, encompassing a wide range of major technical equipment to industrial machinery. Typically, these equipment pieces are heavyweight and oversized, making professional and reliable logistics services crucial.

Before the Spring Festival, a Chinese manufacturing enterprise entrusted YQN to ship a batch of large-scale intelligent transportation equipment. Despite the tight timeline and limited shipping resources nearing the Spring Festival, YQN's solution far exceeded the customer's expectations. The overall transit time was shortened, and costs were significantly reduced. As a result, the customer doubled their planned shipment volume, marking a prosperous start to 2024.

Adjusting shipping solutions proactively to save on shipping costs

Our customer, a private listed company, provides transportation machinery for overseas mineral extraction. Their largest and heaviest equipment exceeds 50 tons per unit, with close to 20 units to be shipped. The requirement for specialized shipping vessels is very high, and all shipments must be dispatched before the Spring Festival.

Due to the holiday season and the crisis in the Red Sea, the availability of suitable break-bulk ships decreased significantly. YQN found a supplier with abundant resources and experience in handling oversized and heavy cargo logistics.

To the customer's surprise, YQN not only secured shipping space on a German break-bulk ship but also significantly reduced shipping costs with its professional approach.

Upon receiving the customer's order, YQN's coordinating team discovered that there was another batch of goods scheduled to be shipped from South Korea to Australia on the same route. The port of arrival for this batch of goods was closer to the customer's destination. By suggesting a route adjustment to align with the Korean shipment, the goods could arrive three days earlier than the original contract, reducing the door-to-door transit time by about 5 days. This change helped the customer reduce significant logistics time and costs.

YQN promptly informed the customer of this opportunity. In fact, the route taken by the shared cabin with the Korean customer was the most ideal for our customer. However, such a route is rare for Chinese shipments, as most shipping companies are reluctant to take this route. This time, YQN timely accessed all the shared cabin information provided by the shipping company and familiarized themselves with the customer's specific destination information. Through professional and a customer-centric service approach, even after the customer had placed the order, YQN proactively suggested and implemented route changes to help the customer catch this "sharing ship."

Upon receiving confirmation from the customer, YQN's service team urgently updated the shipping solution, rearranged the shipment, re-signed shipping contract, and actively coordinated with the destination port services to complete all processes before departure, ensuring the smooth shipment of the customer's first batch of goods in 2024.

Shipment volumes doubled

Due to the rarity of the route secured by YQN, both the transportation time and cost exceeded the customer's expectations. Before departure, the customer urgently gathered domestic inventory, temporarily increasing the shipment volume by 100%.

The increase in volume added complexity to the safety of on-the-way transportation. Nearly 20 pieces of oversized and heavy goods, averaging over 30-40 tons each, were loaded onto the ship from the dock and had to be safely moved and placed on the ship. Special cranes were needed not only at the dock but also on the ship.

However, the customer's own lifting tools could not be used on the deck, and these goods were not only large and heavy but also irregular in shape. The existing wide-range cranes on the ship did not meet the requirements. YQN communicated with the carrier, drafted a lifting plan, flexibly modified the existing crane on the ship, and ultimately met the customer's requirements for professional lifting, ensuring the safe transportation of the customer's large equipment at sea and once again gaining the customer's approval.

The intelligent transportation equipment is used year-round for mineral transportation overseas, resulting in significant wear and tear. On average, replenishment needs to be arranged overseas every 2-3 months. Due to the heavy weight and large size of the goods, even slight fluctuations in shipping rates can affect the customer's overall shipping costs.

Based on its rich experience in oversized and heavy cargo, YQN not only helps customers find transportation resources that match their shipping schedules but also, through its professional services, helps customers reduce additional lease risks. These shipping fees may seem inconspicuous, but for customers unfamiliar with the rules of break-bulk cargo transportation, oversized and heavy goods can easily incur additional costs ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

After long-term cooperation, the customer has recognized the value of YQN's professional logistics services in reducing the cost of shipping large manufacturing equipment overseas. As a result, they have established a stable partnership with YQN. When encountering difficulties outside the logistics field, they also turn to YQN for help and consultation.

YQN's professional logistics services not only meet customers' needs but also go beyond their expectations, providing customers with worry-free and cost-saving shipping experiences.
