How to Transport Steel Coils Internationally?
Steel coils are widely used in manufacturing, particularly in automobiles, bridges, and ships, due to their high strength and good toughness. However, their heavy weight and rolling propensity make them a challenging cargo for logistics companies for both land and sea transportation. In this issue, YQN will exclusively share our tips for transporting steel coils internationally.
With the shipping request to transport steel coils to multiple countries in Southeast Asia, YQN successfully transported nearly 160 containers daily at peak times, which requested high loading and transportation capabilities.
Transportation Challenge 1: Container Loading
Improper container loading of steel coils not only carries the risk of leakage and tipping but also poses a threat to other cargo on board due to vessel movements, resulting in substantial losses. YQN’s reinforcement personnel deeply understand the characteristics of steel coils and containers as well, eliminating potential hazards from the source.
> 1. Wooden Lath Placement
To increase the contact area, YQN’s stuff first lay multiple wooden laths inside the container, ensuring that the laths are vertically positioned against the container's bottom beams. This significantly increases the load-bearing surface area after placing the steel coils and reduces pressure on the container's bottom, preventing damage on containers during hoisting.
> 2. Wire Rope Installation
To avoid rolling, steel wire ropes are used to secure steel coils to containers, ensuring overall stability.
> 3. Flexible Loading
Different loading methods are employed based on the number of steel coil pieces loaded in each container, such as directly lifting the coils with a forklift or rolling them into the container while supported by a forklift. Tailored transportation plans are devised based on the specific loading methods, quantities, and customer requirements. YQN actively coordinates with relevant parties to address safety concerns and ensure smooth shipments.
Transportation Challenge 2: Transportation Capacity
Given the high production capacity of our clients, there is a significant demand for coordinating sea and land transportation resources within a short time. To prevent warehouse congestion and tackle storage capacity constraints, YQN proactively allocates abundant trucking resources based on the customer's shipping plan.
Leveraging our route resources in Southeast Asia and the localized logistics services of our overseas branches in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc., YQN efficiently manages multiple shipping tasks for several steel coil manufactures simultaneously. With extensive experience and deep understanding of international and local carriers' diverse requirements, as well as the specific demands at origin and destination ports for port entry, loading, and pick up, we successfully handle numerous shipping assignments for steel coil.
